Obedience
Girl Going to Church

“And we receive from Him anything we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what pleasing to Him. 1 John 3: 22.”

Blessings, prosperity and peace are often the end result of obedience to God. Obedience is about submitting and surrendering to God’s commands in the bible. A lot of great blessings pass away because of disobedience.

Obedience helps us to live holy lives and it deepens our relationship with God. Jesus obeyed God to the point of death. We must obey all God’s commands without being selective; James 2:10 says “For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God's laws”.

Remember, partial obedience is disobedience. Disobedience also leads to separation from God. Also obey the Lord first before obeying human authority. For example, Puah and Shiphrah defied human authority in obedience to God. God blessed these women with children of their own. Exodus 1:7-14. We must always obey God in faith, even when we don’t understand.

The promises of God in scriptures below tell us a lot about the importance of obeying the Lord’s commands in the bible.

  • “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:7

  • “And we receive from Him whatever we ask, because we obey His orders practice what is pleasing to Him. 1 John 3: 22.

  • ” Blessed rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey and practice it! Luke 11: 28.

  • Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. Exodus 19:5

  • Be watchful and obey all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God. Deuteronomy 12: 28

  • Isaiah 48:17–19 this is what the LORD says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow. Oh, that you had listened to my commands! Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea. Your descendants would have been like the sands along the seashore—too many to count! There would have been no need for your destruction, or for cutting off your family name."

  • James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

  • Isaiah 1:19 If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land

  • 1 John 5:2–3 also reads by this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome

2 Corinthians 7:1 Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. Obedience to God is the pathway to enjoy a satisfying life.

Hebrews 3:7-8a,12, Today if ye will hear his voice harden not your hearts … Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief.
